Peter and Paul Cathedral

Peter and Paul Cathedral is the ideological and compositional center of Peter and Paul Fortress. Inside of the Cathedral you will find two main and fabulous parts - the wooden gilded Baroque iconostasis and the altar canopy, presents by Peter the Great and Catherine I.

Trubetskoy Bastion Prison

The exposition tells about the main political prison of the Imperial Russia, about the fates of the prisoners, their treatment and conditions.

Museum of Cosmonautics and Rocket Technology

The Museum permanent exhibition is devoted to the history of Russian cosmonautics and rocket technology and the role played by the Petersburg-Leningrad scientists, engineers, and designers in the development of this area of Russian science and technology.

Museum of Ceramics

The exhibition narrates about the developing of decorative architecture ceramics and interior decoration throughout 18th – early 20th century. The collection features tile stoves and fireplaces, as well as rare façade decoration examples from the well-known St Petersburg buildings.

State Museum of the History of St Petersburg includes seven branches: Peter and Paul Fortress,

Shlisselburg Fortress Oreshek, Rumyantsev Mansion, Alexander Blok Museum, Sergey Kirov Museum,

St Petersburg Avant-garde Museum (Mikhail Matyushin’s House), Monument to the Heroic Defenders of

Leningrad, Museum of Printing.

The collection of the museum numbers some 1,5 million items – material testimonies of the history of St

Petersburg.

The museum carries out large works on preservation, conservation and restoration of monuments

of cultural and historical significance. Our curators are engaged in various exhibition and publishing

projects.

Peter and Paul Fortress

The Peter and Paul Fortress was founded on May 27, 1703. According to legend, Peter I himself chose the place for the new fortress - a small Hare Island (in Finnish - Yenisaari), located at the mouth of the Neva River.

The citadel in the shape of a six-pointed star was built according to a project drawn up by the French engineer J.G. Lambert with the participation of the king.

Six curtains are connected by six powerful bastions named after the associates of Peter I. The Ioannovsky and Alekseevsky ravelins close the defensive system from the west and east. Two bridges - Ioannovsky and Kronverksky - connect Zayachy Island with Petrogradsky.
